Green Bean Casserole Makeover

  • 1 bag of microwavable frozen green beans
  • 1/2 cup Vegan protein brother or Vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 5 teaspoons of Italian Herbs
  • 1 tsp. BariGirls Basic Blend seasoning or low sodium seasoning blend
  • tbsp. Sunflower or Olive Oil
  • 1/3 cup of Gluten free fried onions
  • 1 can of cream of mushrooms
  • 1/2 of a small Vidalia onion
  • 1/2 tsp Pink Himalayan salt
  • Gluten Free Fried Onions
  • 1 Large Sweet Onion
    ½ cup brown or white rice flour
    sunflower or canola oil or any high temp oil
    1 tsp pink Himalayan sea salt
    pepper to taste


Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Using an oven safe glass container medium size casserole dish.  Heat a large skillet over medium to high heat and place 4-5 teaspoons of olive oil skillet. After cooking green beans according to package instructions, place the entire bag into the skillet and add 1/2 cup of protein broth, Italian herbs, can of cream of mushrooms, BariGirls seasoning and onion. Mix well and allow to simmer for 3-4 minutes. If too thick, add 1/3 cup of water before placing the mixture into an oven safe container and spread evenly. Place in oven for 45 minutes, 25 into cooking time, remove and place fried onions on top of mixture, return to oven for an additional 10 minutes and watch closely to make sure they do not burn. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Feel free to add additional pepper or Italian herbs as needed. Watch for browning and bubbling during cooking time.

Gluten Free Fried Onions Instructions

In a frying pan, pour about 1/2 inch of oil. Preheat the oil over medium heat.
Slice the onion paper thin. Dredge the slices in the rice flour, the onion should be moist enough that the flour will bind to it. Fry until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
